Embarrassing Myself on Twitter is Not Enough

A Quiet Place

Sound-murdering monsters inherting the Earth in order to give one family a pretense to eat off of kale leaves and wear heather wool doesn’t seem far-fetched. I’ve been to Maine, I’ve seen the L.L. Bean catalogue, and I myself, though technically my ancestors are Continental Catholics, came to A Quiet Place to escape the noise of weed-whackers. I said this to the person who gave me my ticket, which was pretty much the noise of a battery-operated toy in a picturesque forest. Where are we? New England with corn?

Did the monsters take all the birth control? In the sound apocalypse, is to not have a child to lose hope in the survival of the species? Invite death with a noisy baby or wait around to die?

We all need a little digital detox, but this is an excessive way to blackmail your son into going on a fishing trip with you, even for a parent. We’ve all wanted a waterfall to yell behind, but this kid wants to yell precisely not with his dad. Likewise, we’ve all wanted not to hear sometimes, and nobody then wants her dad to build a hearing aid in order to discover all the ways in which she’s fucking up.

Have they been stuck at their Airbnb for three years?
